Comprehensive Health Appraisal Questionnaires
There are various questionnaire and health appraisal forms that I utilise when a patient is seeking to improve their levels of wellness. These questionnaires cover such areas as symptoms and indicators of general system function, stress, and possible mood disorders.
Completion of these profiles as well as keeping a food diary for a week provides me with an enormous amount of information about you, your health and your lifestyle. Armed with this information, I can help you understand where and how to make changes and suggest supplementation with vitamins, herbs and homeopathics if required.
Food Sensitivity and Allergy Assessment
If multiple sensitivities are suspected or the patient is experiencing Irritable Bowel Syndrome, eczema, chronic tiredness and poor immune function, a test that measures reactions to 90 common foods can be performed.
The patient is provided with a self collection kit and then this is sent to a laboratory for assessment. A report is sent back in about ten days. These tests can measure over 90 common reactive foods and spices and can indicate
Food Intolerances.
These are foods that your body is able to tolerate up to a certain limit, above that they begin to cause problems. Wheat, gluten, dairy and soy are common examples.
True Immunoglobulin Allergies.
These are true allergies where the immune system recognizes the food as a deadly invader. These foods should be avoided completely, as even a small amount is enough to trigger the full response.
Full Allergy Screen.
Here we test for a full range of common allergens. It is possible to also use a kinesiology muscle testing approach to test various cleaning products, perfumes etc.. In fact anything that the patient feels may be an allergy trigger for them.
Candida
Candida is a yeast which is often naturally occurring in the human digestive tract, however, when it becomes overgrown due to taking a course of anti-biotic, high sugar and starch diet and lifestyle factors such a s chronic stress it can cause many problems, such as digestive problems, chronic tiredness, unexplained aches, rashes, sinus issues as well as many others. It is often one of the hidden causes in people’s chronic ill health.
This test uses a single drop of blood to measure if it contains antibodies to candida, indicating an overgrowth problem.
Coeliac
This test uses a single drop of blood to detect antibodies to gluten which is a starch found in Wheat, Rye, Barley and Oats.
The presence of the gluten antibody indicates an allergy response which may vary from Gluten sensitivity ( now believed to be quite common), or is severe a condition known as Ceoliac’s disease. This can cause many symptoms and is an often an undiagnosed factor in many health challenges such a excessive tiredness, bloating, widespread inflammation as well as severe gastric disturbances.
Gut Flora Balance Test
The Urinary Indican test is a screening test that indicates putrefaction of protein in the gastrointestinal tract. This is a great diagnostic tool for Leaky Gut Syndrome, Candida, intestinal parasites and general bowel function.
By measuring the level of these proteins we can assess the degree of the problem in the intestine. These gut problems can cause many symptoms, often including unexplained lower back pain.
How is the test done?
A urine sample is all that is required and this test can be performed during a consultation. The sample is mixed with two reagents and then evaluated against a colour chart.
Hormonal Tests
Given that our Hormone levels can affect a wide range of conditions such as, insomnia, chronic stress, Adrenal Exhaustion, weight gain, menstrual irregularity and many of the symptoms attributed to ageing it is often useful to have a Saliva or Blood Hormone Level checks performed.
The difference that balanced Hormones can make to your quality of life is enormous. Herbal and vitamin supplementation and a specific dietary and lifestyle modifications can be designed once your hormone levels are established.
Zinc Taste Test
Zinc is an essential mineral which is commonly deficient as 66% of males and 83% of females over the age of 20 do not eat the recommended daily allowance.Zinc is also commonly low in adolescents due to their rapid growth and hormonal changes.
Zinc is required by the body in over 100 enzyme functions. Zinc is an essential nutritient in hormone function, for viable sperm in males and general fertility. Good zinc levels are required in rapid growth in childhood, a healthy immune system, rapid and healthy wound healing, healthy skin, and it
Zinc deficiency can create copper excess and this situation can adversely affect the nervous system and kidney function. Excess Zinc is also a problem and which is why a Zinc taste test should be taken before embarking on zinc supplementation.
Increased zinc excretion can occur in alcoholism and a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates. The absorption of zinc is affected by many factors the major being excess grains and grain fibre in the diet, poor absorbing in disorders of the gut.
How is the Zinc test done?
This is a taste responsive test and can be done in minutes. The patient holds a sample of zinc sulphate solution in the mouth for ten seconds and then swallows. A response is assessed based on how quickly and strongly the zinc could be tasted.
Urine pH levels
This test measures the acidity or alkalinity of the body. Most people are too acid, and this can be a major contributor to health problems and inflammation. The body can easily be returned to its natural alkaline state by simply changing what you are eating.
Heavy Metal Toxicity
This is another simple urine test that can be performed in the clinic . Heavy metal toxicity can affect general well being, create nervous system disturbance and is often the source of chronic tiredness and poor immune function.
This test is an effective screening tool that looks at mercury, cadmium, lead, zinc and copper excesses.
