Wellbeing and Flourishing
The focus of the work of Sonja Gwosdezki D.C is on creating physical and emotional wellbeing so that you can Flourish.
So why do I prefer to use the word Wellbeing and “what does it mean to FLOURISH“?
Wellbeing
Wellness is defined as physical, mental and emotional health or soundness.
Wellbeing incorporates the all the qualities of wellness such as having no symptoms, having good energy and health . . . and goes a step further.
Wellbeing is defined as a deep balanced state of good physical and emotional health, happiness and quality relationships.
It also is often described as a good healthy or comfortable state. Most importantly, wellbeing is about balanced integration of all areas of your life.
Wellbeing is about the combination of vibrant physical health, the quality of our relationships,the security of our finances,and our social connections.It is possible to have a state of wellbeing even if we do not have perfect health.
There are many ways that we can create a state of wellbeing but the single biggest threat to our state of wellbeing is actually our selves.
So often we allow our short term decisions to over ride what is best for our wellbeing.
When we have balanced state of Wellbeing in all areas of our life then I feel that we are flourishing.
Flourishing
Means to be “healthy and strong or to grow well, especially as a result of optimum conditions”. It can also simple mean to “do well”.
Modern researchers believe that individuals described as flourishing have a combination of high levels of emotional , psychological, and social wellbeing.
The best way that I can describe this is to imagine a flourishing plant.We all recognise one when we see it—it’s healthy, looks great and has this real sense of aliveness about it.
For a plant to be able to flourish, it needs the correct balance of conditions for its individual needs: the right soil, sun, water and temperature for that plant.
When these are provided, it’s easy for the plant to be healthy, grow and naturally thrive.
As people, we also need to be provided with a balance of the right conditions to enable our body, mind and spirit to move from simply surviving to flourishing.
For us humans Flourishing means to have :
- a good and proper amount of healthy, fresh, unprocessed foods;
- good hydration;
- optimal movement, stretching and exercise;
- adequate rest and relaxation;
- a sense of purpose in life;
- quality family connections and friendships;
- taking part in enjoyable activities, such as play, hobbies, etc.
Making the decision to provide the right conditions for a healthy body and addressing your mindset are the first steps towards a sense of wellbeing and flourishing. Good health and emotional and physical wellbeing are the foundations that allow you to dream of even greater goals. It is said, “Health is our wealth”.
Recently, I heard a medical researcher say, “If we only think about our health when we are sick or have symptoms, then we are choosing to live a life of reduced quality. Our everyday choices create the fabric of our life”.
It is my hope that every person have the opportunity to experience vibrant wellbeing and a sense of flourishing in his or her life.
